Porto Roar To Victory

Huge congratulations to FC Porto who clinched the Portuguese Liga title at the Estádio do Dragão yesterday with (a club record) five matches to spare.
Their 20th victory in 25 league games, Jesualdo Ferreira’s side crushed CF Estrela da Amadora 6-0 to claim their 23rd title (and third in succession) with strikes from (amongst others) Lucho González and Ricardo Quaresma (in the club’s SF car, above).
Porto now have an insurmountable 18-point lead over SL Benfica and Vitória FC, and their victory means they are now closing in on Benfica’s record (they won the 1972/73 Liga title by 18 points).
“This club approaches football with a different kind of passion,” said Ferreira to UEFA.com. “The fans are more demanding and our players are the best so I’m very proud of them.”
FC Basel also collected silverware yesterday when they won the Swiss Cup for a second consecutive season, having won 4-1 against lower league AC Bellinzona (and at St Jakob Park, too!). Well done from everyone at SF to FCB!
